Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island Elder Uncle Kev Starkey
Involved in the Music and Arts industry for more than Three Decades, Nurrunga/Adnyamathanha, Birripi, Saibai Elder, Uncle Kev Starkey is a respected and valued Music Industry Stakeholder Nationally and Internationally.
Uncle Kev Starkey's vision is to create an autonomous and self determined First Nations music industry supportive of all First Nations creative practioners, from performers to back end industry professionals. Darkwood's vision as a record label service and cultural consultancy is to broker change by utilising Uncle's ever expanding knowledge of ATSI Culture, Music Industry and Academia.
Uncle Kev is assisting in the Professional Development of First Nations and non First Nations Peoples across the Country, sharing his vast experiences to help navigate a pathway to an independant artist career.
As an (Honorary Senior Fellow) of UniSC over four fields, First Nations Music, Language preservation, Cultural presentation and Environmental Education, as well as an Affiliate Researcher for the Indigenous and Transcultural Research Centre UniSC, Community Research Associate (ARC) Australian Research Council & The Remedy Project (National Research Excellence Award), Uncle Kev is creating pathways for First Nations Artists to advance their careers in the Music Industry.
Darkwood Studios,will be assisting in the understanding of how to best support the sustainability and growth and development of Traditional, Contemporary and Modern Music in Community, Regionally and Nationally.
As Elder in Residence for BIGSOUND Uncle Kev has the honour of overseeing all activity surrounding First Nations Music and Conferencing.
Uncles ethos is 'Success comes from helping others Succeed' which can be felt in every moment within Darkwood. Welcome.

With the creation of Darkwood Studio Record Label Service, First Nations Cultural Services Consultancy (FNCSC), Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Elder, Uncle Kev Starkey has developed a much needed service for First Nations Artists. Darkwood Studio is a creative haven where stories are crafted into powerful melodies that resonate with the soul. When you step into Darkwood Studios you step into a culturally safe and productive environment where creativity and collaboration come together.
